“In the style” or “topped with ice-cream:” has there ever been a more perfect phrase than à la mode? Well, get ready because today’s post combines both meanings! You already know I love fashion, but what you might not know is that I am an ice-cream aficionado, especially when it is served in an adorable parlor like this one. I heard about Parlor Deluxe a few months ago (they are in their fifth month of operation), but only recently had the opportunity to check it out and am I glad I did! This little spot is a gem, with marble countertops, retro bar stools, and gourmet ice-cream/ milkshake flavors like Honey Lemon Olive Oil (which I got in milkshake form). Their menu also boasts such delicacies as chicken & waffles and hotdogs. Of course, not your ordinary dogs–these are dressed with toppings like house-made kimchi, guava smoked honey mustard, cucumber lemon Greek yogurt, pineapple and jalapeno relish…is your mouth watering yet?
How about now?
What makes Parlor Deluxe so extra special is that you can step inside and feel at once like you are at a parlor in the fifties with a contemporary, upscale twist. They have revived a theme from the past because it was an excellent idea then and an excellent idea now. Fashion does this as well, as trends recycle and traditional garbs lose appeal and then are reworked into something new and innovative. It’s fun to feel like you are experiencing at least the good parts of what people did 60 or 100 years ago. Even more fun when ice-cream is involved!
